If you’re looking to crush cans or quarters, vaporize a watermelon or do some other high energy discharge experiments you’ll need one or more good capacitors. I’m selling a few of mine down below. The output leads are tied together and they are sold with no charge in them. Anything beyond that is your responsibility.
I’m clearing out some large inventory to make space. The items I have available right now are listed below. Please use the contact button at the top of this page or use the comments section to contact me if interested and for photos (email addresses are not publicly shown when you leave a comment):
100uF/10kV Energy Storage Capacitors
QTY: 2
Description: Blue colored energy storage capacitors, labled Non-PCB. This pair was originally from a large Holobeam Nd:Glass laser and I just haven’t been getting the use I wanted out of them.
Capacitance: 100 uF
Voltage: 10,000 Volts
Energy: 5000 Joules / 1 Coulomb
Weight: Appx 150 Lbs
Selling to: I’d prefer to sell these in the NY, NJ, PA,VT, MA, CT area to a buyer who will pick up. If I do consider shipping (freight only) I definitely will only sell them to US residents with US addresses.
Asking price: $old each or $old for the pair
170uF/10kV Energy Storage Capacitor
Quantity: 1
Description: Aerovox white colored energy storage capacitor labeled Non-PCB. Originally part of a high-energy laser research program that was shut down.
Capacitance: 170uF
Voltage: 10,000 Volts
Energy: 7500 Joules / 1.7 Coulombs
Weight: 150-175 Lbs
Selling to: I’d prefer to sell these in the NY, NJ, PA,VT, MA, CT area to a buyer who will pick up. If I do consider shipping (freight only) I definitely will only sell them to US residents with US addresses.

Hi,
I’m looking for some large capacitors. Better sit down for this one. I prefer to have a capacitor that weights about 50 Kilograms,38.5 CM high,8.3 CM wide,33 CM long, using 4000K and charged to 100 kilovolts. If you don’t have anything like that maybe we can cut the dimensions down by half, if that doesn’t work lets cut that in half again and so on. Since this is proof of concept, if it works I will go back up to the numbers I need. I need an automatic fast rise and a fast discharge around 180 discharges per second.
Ok, you can stop laughing now. If you don’t have anything like this can you recommend someone. I might need several.
Thanks,
Ed
Hi Ed,
These caps were long ago sold and I don’t have anything more like it. All I can recommend is watching ebay and surplus sales. These holobeam laser unit was originally bought from eBay relatively cheap and the other capacitor from a friend. I’m not a capacitor dealer, just a hobbyist.
It’s harder to find these from other high voltage enthusiasts as they’re highly valued, rare and also very dangerous and if they don’t know you well, they probably won’t take the risk of putting you at risk. With any of the capacitors I have listed above, and even much much smaller ones, your first wrong move would be your last, there is no room for error. Be safe, know what you’re getting into and good luck with your project.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, consider building an array with smaller value capacitors to reach the values that you need.
As for your requirements, you say 4000k, is that the EIA value? generally that consists of 2 values and a multiplier with a tolerance at the end (k = 10%). (1 microfarad would be 105, 10 microfarad is 106, 100 is 107, etc.,). From what I have seen it is just more common to use the uF value such as 100uF, or 50uF and so on. Perhaps if you clarify the capacitance value, more information could be derived for your needs. -Jon
